چکیده

Electronic excitation energy transfer was studied for chlorophyll a in a solid solution of poly styrene by measuring the concentration quenching of quantum yield, polarization, and lifetime of fluorescence. The concentration quenching of the experimental fluorescence quantum yield is adequately described by Kelly and Porter’s empirical formula (Proc. Roy. Soc., Lond. A 315, 149, 1970), and of polarization of fluorescence by the Jablonski theory (Acta Phys. Pol., 14, 295, 1955). With increasing concentration of chlorophyll a, the fluorescence peak at 672 nm (mainly monomer) is red-shifted, the intensity of the emission peak at '■»■'730 nm (mainly aggregate) relative to that at the shorter wavelength is increased. The R 0 values, calculated by using total concentrations, for the emission at 672 nm and 730 nm are 73 + 2 A and 45 ± 1 A, respectively. This may suggest that the chlorophyll monomers have a greater efficiency of energy transfer than the aggregates, which fluoresce at ~ 7 3 0 nm.

Antagonistic Effects of Mono-and Divalent Cations on Polarization of Chlorophyll Fluorescence in Thylakoids and Changes in Excitation Energy Transfer

Monoand divalent cations affect several primary photoprocesses in thylakoids: initial energy distribution between the two pigment systems [1 -7 ] , excitation energy redistribution or 'spillover' from pigment system (PS) II to PSI [2,4,6-15], rate constant of thermal dissipative transitions [6,7,16,17], and activation of reaction center II [18-20] . Several of these effects may occur concurrent...

Low-temperature (4-77°k) Spectroscopy of Anacystis; Temperature Dependence of Energy Transfer Efficiency

From the absorption spectra, emission and excitation spectra of chlorophyll a (Chl a) and phycocyanin fluorescence measured (from 4 to 77 °K) at different wavelengths, we confirmed that a large portion of Chl a (Chl a 670, Chl a 678 and Chl a 7o5),.in Anacystis, is in System I, and that System II is composed mainly of phycocyanin and of some Chl a 670 and Chl a 678. Our data also confirmed the ...

Energy Transfer Among Like and Unlike Molecules in Solution VI. Effect of the Mediation of Donor Molecules Upon the Electronic Excitation Energy Transfer in Binary Systems *

The effect of an interdonor energy transfer is investigated on the following donor-acceptor systems in thin rigid cellulose acetate films: anthracene and tetracene (I), 9-methylanthracene and 2-aminobenzophenone (II), 9,10-diphenylanthracene and 2-aminobenzophenone (III). The donor quantum yield and fluorescence anisotropy in systems I—III are in good agreement with theoretical predictions for ...

Antenna size dependence of fluorescence decay in the core antenna of photosystem I: estimates of charge separation and energy transfer rates.

We have examined the photophysics of energy migration and trapping in photosystem I by investigating the spectral and temporal properties of the fluorescence from the core antenna chlorophylls as a function of the antenna size. Time-correlated single photon counting was used to determine the fluorescence lifetimes in the isolated P700 chlorophyll a-protein complex and in a mutant of Chlamydomon...
